Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a unique collaborative institution and the first joint venture university in China offering both UK (University of Liverpool) and China (Ministry of Education) accredited undergraduate degrees for all programmes offers. The broader Suzhou area embraces the spirit of both old and new in China, with the historic old town’s canals, UNESCO-listed gardens and IM Pei-designed Suzhou Museum attracting millions of tourists annually. SIP offers an excellent quality of life with high environmental standards. The nearby Jinji Lake offers attractive views day and night, and there are a variety of shopping, international and local restaurants, entertainment centers and nightlife. Suzhou is also home to four international schools.

Through research, education, and community engagement, the Department of Health and Environmental Sciences at XJTLU seeks to discover, study, and solve complex environmental issues affecting humans in rapidly changing urban and rural environments. The department currently has 19 academic staff, 2 vacancies, and has hired 14 staff with expertise in ecology and pollution over the past 4 years.


Applications are invited for two positions at Assistant or Associate Professor level in Environmental Sciences at the Department of Health and Environmental Sciences, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.

The positions are 40% research, 40% teaching and 20% service. The first appointment is with a 3-year contract and corresponds to a tenure track position. Research expertise can be in any fundamental or applied area of ​​environmental science. The successful appointments will teach courses in environmental sciences in accordance with the current and future needs of the department. HES has current teaching needs in remote sensing, water pollution and environmental engineering, chemistry or microbiology


The successful applicant must have a PhD or equivalent degree in environmental sciences or a related field relevant to environmental or public health sciences and appropriate research and teaching experience to be appointed as an assistant/associate professor. English is the language of instruction at XJTLU.
