Job overview

We are seeking three experienced environmental managers to help develop and embed our operational environmental plan and management system and ensure Transport for London can move people across London safely, inclusively and sustainably. This is an exciting time to be part of an expanding team helping Transport for London achieve our goal of being a strong green heartbeat for London.

Our environmental managers not only provide support and technical advice for our day-to-day operations and maintenance of key systems, but also provide environmental coaching, are responsible for environmental improvement activities and management system development, monitor and review progress. The role requires collaboration with teams within TfL and externally to improve TfL’s environmental performance.

Main Responsibilities:
• Promote the TfL Corporate Environment Plan by providing support and guidance across the organization. Support and challenge the company to carry out activities to improve our operational environmental performance in line with the plan. Help coordinate and track activities and progress against plans to ensure continued progress
• Supporting the development and ongoing improvement of the environmental management system, including safeguarding the system
• Advice and input to other SHE teams and the company on environmental issues, including the use of performance data
• Provide environmental input into procurement processes by developing contract clauses, evaluating bids and monitoring contractor performance.

Important interfaces
• Environmental experts and external benchmarking organizations to learn and share best practices
• External decision-makers and environmental authorities
• Business units across TfL provide technical advice
• External designers, contractors and other suppliers

knowledge
• Good knowledge of environmental management regulations and the environmental issues TfL faces
• Strong knowledge of designing and evaluating initiatives to improve corporate environmental performance
• Expertise of the policy framework in which TfL operates
• Strong knowledge of SHE management systems/environmental management systems

Skills
• Ability to develop credibility and influence stakeholders
• Strong ability to initiate and effect business and behavior change
• Strong ability to work in a high pressure environment under very tight time constraints while maintaining high quality
• Excellent written, oral and presentation skills with proven ability to write strategic and analytical reports

experience
• In the development and maintenance of environmental management systems
• When providing environmental technical advice to a large, complex organization or project – ideally with specific experience of working on site in the construction/transport industry(s).
• In acting at senior level and in influencing directors’ discussions about the form of the company
