Samsung Receives ENERGY STAR Recognition as Environmental Partner of the Year – Advice Eating

Samsung Electronics America received two awards today, demonstrating its environmental leadership 2022 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Awards by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Department of Energy (DOE). Samsung honors include our ninth Sustained Excellence Award for Product Brand Owners and our second Partner of the Year Award for Energy Management, in recognition of the company’s outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through exceptional product innovations and achievements in operational energy efficiency. These 2022 recognitions demonstrate Samsung’s continued achievements in energy efficiency from products to operations and build on the company’s groundbreaking achievements in 2021. The latest awards follow the rare and prestigious Corporate Commitment Award presented in 2021 for Samsung’s long-standing and diverse commitment to leadership and partnership across the ENERGY STAR program, to mitigating climate change and providing efficient solutions in support of our customers’ goals.

The EPA’s ENERGY STAR program has been America’s resource for saving energy, money and protecting the climate for 30 years. During the annual ENERGY STAR Awards, the EPA recognizes companies and organizations for their industry leadership in developing energy-efficient products and services, and in developing and implementing strategies that enable significant energy savings in buildings.

“Sustainability is at the core of Samsung’s mission and we have a commitment to help mitigate the effects of climate change and preserve our planet for future generations. These awards from the EPA reflect our continued efforts to reduce our environmental impact through our efficient ENERGY STAR products, as well as through our reduced energy consumption in the built environment,” he said Mark Newton, Head of Corporate Sustainability at Samsung Electronics America. “We are proud to support the EPA ENERGY STAR program and are pleased to be recognized for our leadership in delivering sustainable innovation to our customers and supporting clean and efficient energy management in our operations.”

“We know we all need to work together to tackle the climate crisis, and the 2022 ENERGY STAR awarded partners are showing what it takes to build a more sustainable future,” he said EPO Administrator Michael S. Regan. “These companies show once again that measures to support a clean energy economy can not only be good for the environment, but also for companies and customers.”

That Sustainable Excellence Award to the Product brand owner represents a prominent distinction bestowed by the ENERGY STAR program. It is awarded to ENERGY STAR partners who have made a long-term commitment to addressing the climate crisis by offering and promoting energy-efficient products to consumers and demonstrating their leadership in energy efficiency. This is the ninth year that Samsung has been named an ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Partner in the Product Brand Owner category.

As a global technology leader, Samsung believes consumers should be able to make a meaningful impact on the environment through everyday changes – and those changes include the ability to buy energy-efficient products that offer savings on energy bills without compromising performance, features or convenience. In 2021, Samsung had 381 ENERGY STAR base models in the US, a 25% increase over 2020. In addition, all Samsung PCs, dishwashers, front-loading washing machines and air purifiers are ENERGY STAR certified. Samsung is committed to innovation in energy efficiency, which is why it won the 2021 ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology Award for Advanced Adaptive Compressors in the refrigerator category and the 2022 Emerging Technology Award for induction cooktops. These awards recognize breakthrough technologies that significantly improve energy efficiency. Globally, Samsung product efficiency innovations have helped our customers avoid an estimated 301 million tons of CO2 emissions since 2009, the equivalent of taking more than 65 million cars off the road.

That Award partner of the year for energy management Awarded to ENERGY STAR partners who demonstrate excellence in improving the energy efficiency of buildings and facilities through an enterprise-wide, portfolio-based energy program. From offices to warehouses and distribution centers to electronics and appliance labs, Samsung Electronics America has a diverse portfolio of 41 buildings across the country. As of 2021, the Company has received ENERGY STAR Tenant Space recognition for seven leased spaces. As of 2021, this number ranked second nationally for most recognized real estate within Tenant Space. As a result, Samsung Electronics America represented approximately 19% of all nationally recognized properties within Tenant Space.

In addition to Tenant Space’s efforts, Samsung is meeting previous energy reduction commitments by retrofitting facilities with ENERGY STAR qualified equipment, appliances and products, and by powering all US facilities, including manufacturing, with 100% renewable energy. Additionally, in 2021, Samsung saw a continuous reduction in electricity consumption from 2020, resulting in a 10 percent reduction in weather-normalized site energy consumption intensity (kBtu/ft2).

Samsung’s commitment to energy-efficient products and operations is a critical aspect of the company’s efforts to combat climate change. The company looks forward to our continued efforts to ensure consumers can make a meaningful impact on the environment through everyday changes, including a focus on energy efficiency.
